Cosmetic Surgery |
Due to comparable prices to the UK market, cosmetic surgery abroad has become increasingly popular. Not only is it possible to receive the type of procedure you wish at an excellent price, you also receive very high standards both surgically and in the care received.
The way we look at ourselves is important, both internally and externally. Nature does not always hand out the figure we dream of and these days there are several ways of enhancing what nature may have over looked. Cosmetic surgery is a choice that many women and men are increasingly considering. The opportunities and types of surgery are vast and vary greatly in price.
As your body is precious and can be a focal part of the way you feel about yourself, it is important to offer yourself the opportunity to have excellent treatment and take into account your recuperation, which in some cases tends to be less of a consideration or a secondary thought.
The St. James Private Hospital Group is ranked among the top private health care organisations in the Maltese Islands. All surgeons are of the highest standards and are qualified in the United Kingdom. The following procedures are available: Face Lifts, Rhinoplasty, Ear Correction, Varicose Veins, Abdominoplasty, Sclero Therapy, Dermal Fillers, Liposuction, Breast Augmentation & Reduction, Hip Replacement, Knee Replacement, Botox, Silk Touch Laser Procedure, Lip Augmentation, Chemical Peel, other surgical procedures available.
As opposed to the UK where the cost of surgery can be considerable and where certain procedures require only an overnight stay in hospital with perhaps little emphasis on patient recuperation - The St James Hospital and the Fortina offer a plethora of cosmetic packages including breast augmentation, at the cost of only £3999, in Luxury Seaview Tower Bedroom. This price includes the hospital fees, entailing one overnight stay at the private St James Hospital in a private ensuite bedroom, consultation with surgeon, implants, surgeon and areas fees, 14 nights all-inclusive at The Fortina Spa Resort, return flights and all necessary transfers. The Fortina is the World's only 6-Wave Spa Hotel as awarded by BISA. It is the perfect location to relax and recuperate, so you can head back to Britain a new you, complete with the look you desire.

We have all experienced pain at some point in our lives. Occasionally a short simple course of treatment or perhaps even just rest might solve the problem. Treating the symptoms only, however, might have a short lived effect. For our treatment to be successful we believe in tackling the problem from its roots through a careful ongoing assessment. Ideally the treatment provided should take into consideration the physiological, psychological and sociological aspects as well as long term prevention programmes.
This holistic approach towards physiotherapy has led us to create a totally new concept. We have pulled out physiotherapy from a hospital setting and placed it in a relaxed and friendly environment surrounded by therapy pools, massage baths and a state of the art exercise centre, all of which are aimed at helping to stimulate our patients to lead a healthier lifestyle. This will enable you, the patient, to achieve a longer lasting effect from your treatment and help prevent a recurrence of the symptoms.
For the first time in Malta, we have brought all these essential components of treatment and prevention together under one roof.
Physiotherapy through the ages
The first descriptions of practice allied to physiotherapy refer to the use of 'therapeutic gymnastics' and gymnastic medicine as preventative and curative treatments in the time of Herodecus (approx. 480 BC), Hippocrates (460 - 370 BC) and later Golan (AD 129-210).
Physiotherapy today has advanced in leaps and bounds from the early days and this change has become particularly obvious during the past ten years, which has signalled the departure from the traditional prescriptive approach to musculoskeletal physiotherapy towards a more rational science-based methodology centred around careful, logical examination and clinical decision making.
Our philosophy
We are firm believers that only through constant staff education will we be able to offer our patients the maximum benefit from our treatments. Therefore, this centre in not only dedicated in offering the most thorough service and complete facilities available on the island but is also involved in continuous research studies.

Everyone knows the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to medical treatment. Cross referrals occur very frequently amongst healthcare professionals/specialists to give the patients the best treatment and also a holistic one.
This is what we have achieved at the Fortina Medical Clinic. We have a number of very experienced people who are qualified to treat and advise patients for a thorough recovery. Together with this manpower, we have a state of the art facility which provides the ideal tools for rehabilitation.
There are great advantages of having all these specialists under one roof. First of all, liaison amongst the health carers is of utmost importance. Aquatic exercise therapy is the union of aquatic exercise and physical therapy. It is a therapeutic approach that uses aquatic exercises designed to aid in the rehabilitation of various conditions such as back pain, arthritic problems, fracture injuries, rheumatological conditions and gait problems.
Water is known to be buoyant and this property of water counteracts gravity and therefore alleviates body weight by reducing compression forces on the joints. Since compression on the painful joint decreases, joint movement is assisted and performed easier.
The warmth of the water reduces muscle spasm, promotes general relaxation and is a very good medium in which the patient can stretch tight muscles. Apart from this, the submerged body parts encounter more resistance in movement and together with the use of the exercises shown by the physiotherapist, water can be a good medium in which the patient can strengthen weak muscle groups.
Another important property of water is hydrostatic pressure, which is the pressure exerted on the submerged body. This pressure increases the circulation and venous return that is very beneficial for swollen limbs.
Above all the supportive property of water provides the safest environment thus creating less fear of falling or hurting painful sites.

The term 'thalasso' is derived from the Greek word 'Thalassa" meaning the sea and is based on concentrated seawater treatment. Our hydrotherapy pool at the spa Meditteranee is not just an ordinary therapy pool since it is also a Thalasso pool, which is heated up to 35 C. The density of this concentrated seawater pool is higher than that of a fresh water pool and thus the weight of a fully immersed body is 2.5 less than fresh water pools, it actually feels like walking on the moon!
Apart from normal sea salt this pool contains other salts such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, bromine, sulphates and carbonates which all are beneficial to the human body. Our thalasso pool is equipped with very powerful jets, which the physiotherapist uses to massage spastic and painful muscles.
Precautions
If you suffer from any of the following kindly let your physiotherapist know before attending any hydrotherapy sessions:
- Heart problems
- Kidney problems
- Incontinence
- Sensitivity to chlorine
- Skin problems (eg. Ulcers, infections…)
- Any fungal infections (eg. Athletes foot)

Body Control Pilates is very closely based upon the method of body-conditioning and training developed by the late Joseph Pilates. It is an exercise method which relies on strengthening core postural muscles and improving body alignment the result being a body that is longer, leaner and both supple and strong. Not only is Body Control Pilates remarkably effective at reshaping your body, it is also medically-approved, enjoying the approval of physiotherapists, chiropractors and osteopaths. It offers many benefits to back pain sufferers and also people with knee and shoulder injuries.
The Method
Central to the Method is 'awareness of your own body' and each and every exercise is built around its eight basic principles.
- Relaxation
- Concentration
- Alignment
- Breathing
- Centering (Core Stability)
- Coordination
- Flowing Movements
- Stamina
The exercises literally build your strength from the inside out, creating a natural 'girdle of strength' from which slow controlled movements are made, making this a very technique. Specific problem-areas can be targeted by an exercise, but always in relation to the rest of one's body.
Your body awareness is heightened by bringing together mind and body - Body Control Pilates literally teaches you to be in control of your body, allowing you to handle stress more effectively and achieve relaxation more easily.
The Method can work for everyone, regardless of fitness level! Exercises can be mat or machine based. Sessions can be on a one to one or group basis. Either way you will leave with a programme of exercises tailored to your own individual needs.
Karla M Fabri is a qualified Body Control Pilates Instructor and she also holds a degree in Sports Science (University of Edinburgh). She has been teaching classes at the Fortina Spa Resort for the past two years.
One to One Session (45mins) - LM 22.00

Tom Kime, a UK Celebrity Chef has brought ‘taste’ to Malta, and introduced the concept of the four main tastes to the Maltese islands, exclusively at the Fortina Spa Resort.
Tom says “To create food that is delicious is to ensure the four main tastes of hot, sweet, salt and sour are present and balanced in an individual dish and throughout a meal, when this is achieved the end result satisfies all the taste buds at once.”
Vietnamese and South East Asian food provides some of the most exciting and stimulating taste sensations, and this is achieved by the deliberate arrangement of ingredients in relation to each other.
Taste is a delightful place to dine with friends, and business associates, it is located in the Fortina’s Tropical Garden a suitable location for all! Taste offers an extensive and exclusive a’ la carte menu. Vegetarian dishes are available.
Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, closed on Mondays.
